Position Overview
A growing electronics manufacturing company is seeking an experienced SMT Operator to support high-volume production operations. This role is responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, and monitoring of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment while ensuring quality, efficiency, and adherence to manufacturing standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate SMT pick-and-place equipment.
- Load and replenish component feeders, reels, stencils, and solder paste.
- Enter and modify machine programs and production parameters.
- Operate automatic and semi-automatic stencil printers and reflow ovens.
- Perform manual component placement and assembly support as needed.
- Conduct visual inspections of populated circuit boards and identify assembly defects.
- Troubleshoot machine, placement, and process-related issues.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and basic repairs.
- Manage component inventory activities, including part counts and proper material handling.
- Follow ESD, MSL, contamination prevention, quality, and safety procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, and productivity.
- Assist with additional manufacturing tasks as required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of SMT equipment operation experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with pick-and-place machines, solder paste printers, and reflow ovens.
- Basic electronics knowledge, including identification of common PCB components and polarity requirements.
- Strong understanding of ESD procedures and proper handling practices.
- Ability to perform detailed visual inspections and identify assembly defects.
- Excellent attention to detail and consistent adherence to documented procedures.
- Basic computer skills for operating equipment interfaces and production documentation.
- Ability to read and understand assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and work instructions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- High school diploma or GED required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with IPC-A-610 standards and electronic assembly quality requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Frequent use of hands, reaching, grasping, walking, and lifting.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs independently and participate in team lifts up to 75 lbs.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Overtime required as business demands dictate, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends.
